‘What stops a virus is natural immunity.’

The statement:

“A government cannot stop a virus. What stops a virus is natural immunity. It’s impossible to stop a virus by government decree.”

My take on it

Natural immunity is a phenomenon. It is just what happens, in nature. All the time. Everywhere. To everyone.

Like gravity.

Our survival depends on our immune system. And our immune system is kept primed by constant infection, involving trillions of tiny players, in a dynamic that we are not even close to really understanding.

In a community, the time comes when sufficient individuals have become immune that a particular virus finds it hard to hitch a ride, and to replicate.

Natural immunity is free, quick, and in most cases automatic. In the minority of cases where it is deemed likely to fail, preventive measures can be taken to boost the immunity of those at risk. These measures include emotional wellbeing, supplements, good nutrition, fresh air and sunlight.

And of course in some very few cases the infection will become symptomatic, even to the point of requiring medical care. Gladly we know a lot more about how to do that effectively than we did nine months ago.

‘Stop the spread’? You can’t anyway; but why would you try?

(And No, I am not a doctor.)
